Meta's Threads app, a rival to Twitter, has attracted 10 million users in its first seven hours, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The app, which is designed for close friends and family, allows users to share photos, videos, and text posts with a limited audience.

Threads was first announced in December 2022, and it was released in the United States and Canada in July 2023. The app has been praised for its focus on privacy and its simple user interface.

In a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg said that he was "excited" by the response to Threads. "We're only in the opening moments of the first round here," he said. "But I'm confident that Threads will be a valuable part of people's lives."

Threads is not the first time that Meta has tried to challenge Twitter. In 2016, the company launched the app "Messenger Day," which was similar to Twitter's ephemeral "Fleets" feature. However, Messenger Day was not a success, and it was shut down in 2018.

It remains to be seen whether Threads will be more successful than Messenger Day. However, the early signs are promising. With 10 million users in its first seven hours, Threads is off to a strong start.

Here are some of the key features of Threads:

Privacy: Threads is designed for close friends and family, so it only allows users to share content with a limited audience.
Simple user interface: Threads has a simple user interface that is easy to use.
Ephemeral content: Threads posts disappear after 24 hours, so users don't have to worry about their content being archived.
Integrated with Instagram: Threads is integrated with Instagram, so users can easily share content between the two apps.
Threads is still in its early stages, but it has the potential to be a successful rival to Twitter. The app's focus on privacy and its simple user interface are appealing to many users, and the integration with Instagram could help it to reach a wider audience.

Only time will tell whether Threads will be a success, but the early signs are promising.
